Rationalisation and 'McDonaldisation' in dental care: private dentists' experiences working in corporate dentistry

Abstract Introduction This study examines how dentists experience the corporatisation of dentistry and impacts rationalisation. The emergence corporate in early twenty-first century has introduced greater competition into dental marketplace. Ritzer's theory 'McDonaldisation' explores rationalisation services through provides an apt framework with which to understand qualitative insights gathered this project. Methods Semi-structured interviews reflective journals were used collect from who working private practice. Data then subjected thematic analysis. Results A total 20 dentist participants provided 22 separate multiple accounts. Following analysis, three key themes emerged: 1) opportunities by dentistry; 2) balance between professionalism commercialism 3) independent dentistry. Conclusions participants' demonstrate four dimensions - efficiency, predictability, calculability control have been encapsulated Australia.
